Director of Applied Technologies & Innovation
Karl emphasizes the human element in technology by helping teams redefine and automate their processes in his role as Director of Applied Technologies & Innovation. After joining Bright Power in 2013 as a Senior Developer, Karl and his team have created proprietary applications that provide the backbone of EnergyScoreCards and streamline operations across the organization to be scalable and more efficient.
Prior to Bright Power, Karl was a Software Developer for Target Systems working on Department of Defense systems for over four years. He then worked at Highmark developing insurance software, eventually being promoted to an Application Architect.
With a desire to connect education and technology, Karl co-founded Koding Kurriculum in 2017 to develop open curriculum resources and content platforms to assist educators. He has taken this love of teaching to Bright Power through the Applied Technology team by running internal coding classes that help his colleagues better utilize technology in their day-to-day tasks.
In his spare time, Karl is a Board Member for Soccer for Charities, an organization that raises money under-served charities through a family-friendly soccer tournament. He is also a mentor for Major League Hacking, guiding students through coding problems at university-held hackathons.
