Dyenamic, Inc. Energy Audit
Dyenamic, Inc. is a 22,500 square foot industrial dye house in Brooklyn, New York. Dyenamic specializes in dyeing, finishing, and tie-dyeing a variety of fabric types. Energy costs account for the largest operating expense at this facility. Bright Power conducted an energy assessment of Dyenamic through an Engineering Grant from the National Grid Energy Efficiency Program and the NYSERDA Technical Assistance Program. With assistance from Bright Power, Dyenamic received grant money from NYIRN and the National Grid Energy Efficiency Program to install the boiler flue gas economizer, gas dryers, and pipe insulation. Our recommendations have helped the client reduce energy costs.
The analysis included:
• monitoring electricity consumption in 15-minute intervals using a power meter
• measurement of the motor efficiency of (2) 25 HP centrifugal dryers used to remove water from large loads of wet fabric
• analysis of heat loss resulting from damaged pipe insulation, revealing significant energy waste as the system runs on high pressure steam (80 psig)
• feasibility of installing cogen and a solar PV system
• analysis of potential energy savings resulting from the installation waste heat recovery
The assessment recommendations included:
- high efficiency motors for the centrifugal dryers
- replacement of steam tumble dryers with more efficient gas dryers
- a boiler flue gas economizer
