Meet Adrian Franco, Director of Product Development.

What are some of the things you like most about working at Bright Power?
Our work is diverse, rapidly changing, and has a real impact on the planet. I am very lucky to have worked on lots of different teams and on very diverse projects. We also are regularly iterating on our work and our processes to make both better, which is very important. And, the culture is super flexible. I’m able to work remotely from Colorado, which is awesome!

What are some projects and accomplishments you’re most proud of?
This past year I helped close some very large on-site generation projects that will have a big impact on our environment. As a Project Manager for the On-site Generation team, I worked with the Account Managers to design solar photovoltaic (PV) systems that affect our customer’s carbon footprint and bottom line.

I am also very proud of the work I did to help develop a mobile app, which is used to collect data from green loan verification site visits. For those that do not know, many green loans require borrowers to verify they installed the energy and water improvement measures they committed to in their loan agreement. That’s where Bright Power comes in. We go to a property with these special loan agreements and verify the improvements have been installed correctly. The app I helped to develop allows our team, subcontractors, and clients to easily collect and share data in a systematic and uniform way. To date, it has been used in 46 states!

What’s something people might not know about you?
I am a very devoted gardener. Last year I grew over 70 different varieties of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. This year, I’m planning to break 100 different varieties. I am actively working to grow a majority of my plants from heirloom seeds. There’s a group in Brooklyn, among many others—this is a big movement globally to grow heirloom plants—that is working with gardeners in a variety of regions and climates to grow different heirloom seeds and provide feedback and data on how they grow. Here are some images from my plot.

Another fun fact: while I work on the technology team, I have not owned a personal laptop in 4 years.

You’ve grown with Bright Power over the past five years. Tell us about your career progression.
One of the things that has been great about Bright Power is that I’ve been able to bounce around to different teams and projects based on my interests and strengths. Bright Power sincerely encourages people to learn both inside and outside of work. It’s a place that encourages people at all levels to speak up—even to disagree with someone senior or who has been at the company for a decade.

What’s the one service offering we have that you think is the most beneficial to clients and why?
Our work where the rubber meets the road: new construction consulting, on-site generation consulting and installation, and retrofit design and implementation. These offerings directly help our clients reduce their carbon emissions and water consumption. Bright Power does more than just consulting – we also are the implementor and can help get actual work done for our clients. It makes it easy for them to understand their options, make a data-driven decision, and then have the work they want to be completed.
